where is all the good stuff?

Poor diet kills 90,000 Brits a year, with a lack of whole grains, nuts, fruit and vegetables being the biggest culprits.

A major study reveals unhealthy eating costs nearly the same number of lives each year as smoking.  It fuels cancer, heart disease and diabetes. Experts also said that salt was a major factor.

The Lancet study estimated how a poor diet contributed to deaths in 195 countries worldwide.  The United Kingdom had the 23rd lowest mortality rate due to diet, down from 73rd in 1990, with 127 deaths per 100,000 i 2017. That may now sound a lot written down, but they were all avoidable.  In total, 89,913 deaths were down to diet. In contrast, smoking was responsible for 96,000 deaths in 2017.

The top diet killers, in order, were reported as:
Lack of whole grains - 24,240
Lack of fruit - 18,411
Lack of nuts and seeds - 16,819
Too much salt - 14,405
Lack of vegetables - 13,380

HMHB promotes a healthy lifestyle, including watching your nutrition intake. We all like treats now and then, but it is vital we get a healthy dose of protein, carbohydrates, sugars, fats, vitamins and minerals, and stay properly hydrated. That is our responsibility. Much is made of government recommendations, adverts for fatty foods, and other factors influencing our habits. But ultimately it is down to us to gain knowledge, eat better, and give ourselves the best opportunity of a good active life.
