Scientists have claimed that E-Cigarettes containing nicotine may increase the likelihood of strokes and heart attacks. They warn that vaping with the stimulant could triple thee risk of stiffening arteries.
Tests on volunteers showed that soon after smoking e-cigarettes there was a significant rise in blood pressure, heart rate and arterial stiffness. These factors can raise the risk of strokes and heart attacks. But no such effects were seen in those vaping without the addictive substance.
Scientists in Stockholm, Sweden, said regular vaping with nicotine liquids, or being exposed to other people's vapours, could cause lasting damage to blood circulation.
Study leader, Dr. Magnus Lundback at Danderyd University Hospital, Karolinska Institute, said: E-Cigarettes are regarded by the general public as almost harmless. However, evidence is suggesting adverse health effects. We speculate that chronic exposure to e-cigarettes with nicotine may cause permanent effects on arterial stiffness. Our results underline the necessity of maintaining a critical and cautious attitude towards e-cigs."
