Links between Gum Disease and Dementia

Image result for good oral health

We all know it is important to clean our teeth, keep our mouths healthy, and look after our Oral Health. And here is another good reason to back it up - it could be causing dementia.

Scientists believe that people with Gum Disease are an incredible 70 per cent more likely to get Dementia. Yep, seventy!!!!  Researchers found that the brain can be damaged by mouth infections, that get into the blood stream. Long-term gum disease sufferers weer found to be at the highest risk of Alzheimer's.

A Study of 28000 people in Taiwan found those who had had it for more than ten years, were 70 per cent more likely to be hit by the condition. Previous studies have shown that dementia patients with gum disease tend to deteriorate more quickly, but it had not been known which condition came first. The new study clearly suggests that gum disease itself may be behind the brain condition.

So get those toothbrushes out everyone.
