Computer Gaming can damage your brain - research here

Image result for are computer games bad for you

I still recall playing Space Invaders, Pac-Man, Asteroids, etc. And thinking just how this technology was so brilliant. Nowadays, games are extraordinary. The visuals are intense, the action non-stop, and you can play online with people inn other countries. But is it possible it is doing us harm? Well, a recent study says just that!!

"Playing computer games may increase the risk of dementia and schizophrenia"

Researchers from the University of Montreal, lead by Professor Greg West, scanned the brains of 97 volunteers before and after 90 hours of gaming.

Action games with on screen maps to aid navigation did the most harm. They caused the most damage to the hippocampus - the part of the brain responsible for orientation and memory. People who played most had a more depleted hippocampus and a higher risk of developing brain illnesses and diseases. However, those who played 3D Platform games boosted their brain power.

Professor West said: "Video games have been shown to benefit certain cognitive systems in the brain. But there is also evidence that there might be a cost to that, in terms of the impact on the hippocampus. We followed it up with two studies to establish causality, and we found that it was indeed the gaming that led to changes in the brain."

Everything in moderation. Games can be fun, great escapism. But don;t forget the real world is much more exciting and fantastic.Spend more time there experiencing life!!
