Insomnia is linked to Asthma

Image result for asthma linked to insomnia

A huge study of 18000 adults has found that those who have sleepless nights are more prone to breathing problems.

The Asthma risk rose by 65 per cent for those who "often" struggled to doze off. It more than doubled among people who lay awake "almost every night". And for chronic insomniacs it almost trebled.

Dr. Ben Brumpton, who led the study in Norway, said: "Changes in the body due to Insomnia may result in more severe harmful affects on the airways."

Around 5.4 million people in the UK suffer from Asthma.  It actually kills on average three people every day. It can be caused by many factors - and these include smoking, being overweight or obese, and air pollution, among others.

Recent research has even found a link between Asthma and depression. Lack of sleep causes inflammation and raises levels of stress hormones, both of which are suggested to trigger Asthma.

HMHB have featured sleep on this blog already, and I am sure there will be much more said on the subject. Funnily, scientists do not actually understand why we sleep - especially as it leaves us in a vulnerable state. However, we do understand how a good rest can help us stay more alert, can help with concentration and focus, and can affect mood.
