Can eating nuts boost your brain power? Let's have a look

I vividly recall as a child the only time we tended to eat nuts was at Christmas, cracking walnuts, hazelnuts, and others. But these days they can be used on a weekly or daily basis. But do they do us any good?

Researchers say that snacking on a handful of nuts can boost your brain power! Studies using brain scans stimulated the type of electrical activity which improves learning,, memory and healing. Pistachios and peanuts were found to be particularly effective.

Pistachios were best at boosting gamma waves in the brain - high frequency patterns critical for perception, learning,, understanding and light REM sleep. Peanuts enhanced delta waves, which are linked with the brain's ability to keep itself healthy, heal itself and go into deep sleep.

The team at Loma Linda University, California, tested almonds, cashews, peanuts, pecans, pistachios and walnuts, measuring their effects with an EEG scanner.  Associate Dean, Lee Berk, said that, while each had different effects, all were high in beneficial antioxidants, especially walnuts.

Previous studies have shown nuts are beneficial for many aspects of health including protecting the heart, fighting various cancers and slowing ageing.

HMHB promotes a healthy lifestyle, and that includes good nutrition, and a handful of nuts a day can only help boost your health. They are full of protein, have healthy fats, and although high in calories, a handful is still fine.
