Every year about 96000 people in the UK die from diseases directly caused by smoking - in other words they would have lived if they had not smoked!!!!

20% of men, and 17% of women, are reported to be smokers. However, 30% of adults in the lowest income households, are smokers. Research has shown that 40% of long-term unemployed people are smokers!!!

Everyone who smokes - regardless if people say "i enjoy it" - should consider stopping to help their own short and long term health.

Things you can do to prepare: it's your choice - find things that work for you.

  1. Switch to another brand for seven days before your quit date to make smoking less enjoyable
  2. Focus on all the positive benefits of quitting smoking. It will improve your health, sleep, mood, appearance and bank balance
  3. Write down your reasons for quitting and put the list somewhere noticeable
  4. The day before you stop smoking, try and take a sip of pure water before each puff - you will notice a difference
  5. Do research. Find out what is really hidden in a cigarette, the caner-causing chemicals, the poisons - and smoke while you are reading about it. Find pictures of diseased organs of the body - not just the lungs - caused by smoking.
  6. Drop all your smoked cigarettes or cigars into a bottle filled with water and watch it becoming more and more disgusting for about a week before you give up
  7. Work out how much money you will save kin a year by quitting - even then divide by twelve and see what you spend a month from your budget - I guarantee you will start thinking twice about smoking
  8. Plan and set a stop date, and stick to it. Mark it down as the day you decided to save your health. A new start day. A new regime. Like a New Year Resolution. Mark it like a birthday, so you can celebrate it every year, as it will genuinely give you more life.
  9. Throw away all tobacco related products so you are ready to give up. This includes no e-cigs, nicotine gums, sprays or patches. Even ash-trays. Commit to quitting.
  10. Tell everyone you are quitting - be accountable - but also ensure people know not to offer you an smokes, but also ask them not to smoke around you, especially in the first few weeks following your quit date. Friends and family should support you.
  11. Believe in yourself!!!!!
