Diabetes is rising - the shocking statistics

Image result for diabetes

One person every three minutes is diagnosed with diabetes.  The condition is a leading cause of blindness, amputation, impotence, and heart disease, with 3.7 million sufferers in the UK alone.

NHS statistics show that 202.665 are diagnosed with obesity-linked type 2 diabetes every year - and that number could be reduced easily!!!

It is estimated that over one million people in the UK are unaware they have the disease, which occurs when the body loses the ability tom process sugar correctly. The NHS warns this crisis is fuelled by the nation's obesity problem, with an incredible nine in ten cases triggered by people being too fat (completely avoidable!). Apparently two in three Brits are classified as either overweight or obese.  It should be noted that Type 1 Diabetes is NOT related to obesity.

The Head of Diabetes UK, Chris Askew, said: "one person diagnosed every three minutes is a frightening speed. We need urgent action to prevent as many of the 12.3 million people at increased risk of type 2 diabetes from developing it."

HMHB says we all have a responsibility to look after our bodies - we have one for our lifetime. It is astonishing how we take it for granted that it will always work properly, regardless of how we treat it. It is never too late to make healthy changes to ensure a better life - both physically and mentally, in exercise and nutrition and routine.
