Cancer risk to fat men - and it's avoidable!!

Men who pile on the pounds increase their risk of several common cancers by a half, a shock study has revealed.  Research showed that men whose bulk grew as they got older had a 50 per cent greater chance of obesity-related tumours.

Being overweight is linked to 13 cancers, including bowel, throat, kidney, breast and pancreatis.

The study also revealed that women who put on weight saw their risk rise by 17 per cent.

Extra fat produces hormones and growth factors that can fuel cancer. Excess weight is now the second biggest cancer trigger after smoking.

The University of Manchester team looked at 300,000 US adults over 15 years. The lead researcher, Dr. Hannah Lennon, said; "this shows how important it is to look at weight gain over a lifetime for a clearer picture of cancer risk, rather than body mass index (BMI) at a single point."  Her findings were published in the National Cancer Research Institute's conference in Liverpool, 2015.
