Protein rich foods help with frailty

A new study has revealed that eating protein rich foods, such as milk, chicken, eggs and tuna, alongside muscle-strengthening exercise, can reverse frailty in up to half of OAPs.

Ten per cent of over 65s are at increased risk of falls, disability and death. That rises to around half of those inn their 80s.

Experts who analysed more than 16,000 cases found that frailty can be reversed in up to 50 per cent of people through exercise and greater consumption of protein

Researcher John Travers, of Dublin's St. Vincent's University Hospital, wants GPs to encourage older patients to do four 20-minute workouts a week, concentrating on stability and limb strength. He also says OAPs should also try to consume a good amount of protein daily.
He said: "we start to lose our muscle mass and strength from our forties by 0.5-1 per cent a year. Strength exercises and a good diet including protein, delays and reverses this process and gives better quality of life."
