Excess Gaming is now a Disorder

Image result for gaming is a mental disorder

I know several of my friends that like gaming. Some though take it to the extreme. Well, now the World Health Organisation (WHO) will add it to the classification of diseases in January 2020, as addiction to console games is to be recognised as a mental disorder.

Around 2.2 billion people worldwide play video games. Scientists believe that 4 per cent of those - around 88 million - are addicted. Men aged 18 to 24 are most at risk. Even children will be offered NHS treatment for this condition.

The WHO say that, to be diagnosed, the behaviour must be of "sufficient severity to result in significant impairment in personal, family, social, educational, occupational or other important areas of functioning."

Interestingly, the global games industry has released this statement:
"gaming disorder is not based on sufficiently robust evidence. Consequences could be far-reaching, unintended and to the detriment of those in need of genuine help."

HMHB says: life is short. we feel we all need to experience the world as it is - yes, it has faults, bt it also has amazing beauty and gifts. There is nothing wrong with playing games, and these days some are very exciting. But limit yourself to a sensible amount of time each week. No-one on their death beds will wish they had spent more time gaming, and less time sharing time with friends and family and exploring our wonderful planet.
