Cruciferous Vegetables. Why we need them.

What do Cauliflower, Brussels Sprouts and Broccoli all have in common?  They are all delicious cruciferous vegetables and pack a nutritional and inflammation-fighting punch.

They are a diverse group, and also include Cabbage, Watercress, Bok Choy, Arugula and Radish. While these vegetables grow in all different colours, shapes and sizes, they share several nutritional benefits. Most cruciferous vegetables are rich in vitamins and minerals, such as Folate and Vitamin K. Dark vegetables are also an excellent source of Vitamins A & C. They are rich in phytonutrients - which are plant based compounds that may help to lower inflammation and reduce the rich of developing cancer. They are high in Fibre and low in calories, a combination that will help you feel full and satisfied without overeating.

It does not take much to reap the rewards. Adults need two or three helpings a day with vegetables, either cooked or raw.

It also goes without saying that many of us do not consume a good balance.  Maybe this is down to current lifestyle, but we have a responsibility to do all we can to look after our health. We must make the time and effort. It pays off in the long term.
