Alarming analysis suggests that four million Brits under 65 are living with untreated High Blood Pressuure, which can lead to a increase in the risk of heart attack and strokes.  It is estimated that 1.3 million of these (one third) are under the age of 45.

High Blood Pressure, often referred to as a "silent killer" or "ticking time bomb", does not usually have any symptoms, meaning many people are oblivious to the risk they are in. Now the British Heart Foundation, who conducted the survey, is urging people to get their blood pressure tested.

It can be done in as little as five minutes at a GP surgery, pharmacy, and even some train stations. If untreated, high blood pressure can significantly raise the likelihood of heart attack, stroke, or vascular dementia. It can be lowered through a healthier diet, more exercise, and of course medication.

The British Heart Foundation estimates a total of 14.4 million UK adults may have high blood pressure. But only 9.7 million have been diagnosed.

HMHB advocates a healthy lifestyle, and this is one reason for it. Better nutrition combined with exercise can clearly help prevent some disease, cancers and other health issues - such as high blood pressure. For many people it is preventable. We need to take action now on sedentary lives.
